A home for Liberal Education
The Ruskin Centre is being established as a permanent institute for liberal education within the ordinary conditions of adult working life. During this founding phase, we are inviting a small number of readers, professionals, and educators to join the Centre’s Founding Circle.
What is the Founding Circle?
The Founding Circle is a community of early members who support the intellectual life of the Centre as it takes shape. Members of the Founding Circle will be the first to receive announcements of forthcoming seminars, public events, and publications, and will be invited to participate in the Centre’s early discussions and experimental offerings.
Why a Founding Circle?
Liberal education depends on continuity, formation, and trust. The Ruskin Centre is therefore being developed deliberately and in dialogue with its early members.
The Founding Circle allows the Centre to grow in a way that is responsive to its teachers and members alike, while maintaining high standards of intellectual seriousness from the outset.
Who is the Founding Circle for?
The Founding Circle is intended for adults who value sustained reading, serious conversation, and intellectual formation over time. Members need not have formal academic training, but should be willing to approach demanding texts with care, patience, and openness to disciplined discussion.
The Centre welcomes members from a wide range of professional and vocational backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to liberal education pursued for its own sake.
What membership involves
During this initial phase, membership of the Founding Circle includes:
Early access to seminar and module announcements
Access to selected reading materials and essays
The opportunity to contribute to the shaping of the Centre’s intellectual life
As the Centre develops, additional forms of participation and study will be introduced.
Teaching and leadership
Teaching at the Ruskin Centre is led by scholars and educators who have undergone appropriate intellectual and pedagogical formation in the Socratic method. Our seminar leaders are engaged in monthly formation activities, refining their approach to foundational texts.
